Rabbi Eckstein Attends Rev. Falwell's Funeral In Dual Role -- Longtime Friend And Official Representative Of Israel
Jerusalem, Israel (PRWEB) May 21, 2007 -- Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, president of the International Fellowship and Christians and Jews (www.ifcj.org), has announced plans to travel from Jerusalem, Israel to attend the funeral of his longtime friend Rev. Jerry Falwell. In addition to honoring his friendship with Rev. Falwell that spanned three decades, Rabbi Eckstein will participate as the official representative of the State of Israel. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, at 1 p.m. at Rev. Falwell's Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va.
"Rev. Jerry Falwell is a true friend of Israel and the Jewish people, and a man that I was honored to call a personal friend. He will be deeply missed," said Rabbi Eckstein in a press statement released following Rev. Falwell's death last week. The rabbi also shared vignettes from his relationship with Rev. Falwell on CNN News, May 16. "When I started The Fellowship, he was among the first Christians to step forward and express interest in being involved in our bridge-building work. And, over the years, he proved his solidarity repeatedly. His involvement helped break down the barriers of mistrust that characterized the relationship between Jews and evangelical Christians at the time."
Founded by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein in 1983, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) has a dual mission to promote understanding and cooperation between Christians and Jews and to build broad support for Israel and Jewish people around the world.
